Today I received this message from an Indonesian pastor of a church in MNYBA: "Please pray earnestly for Indonesia right now. It's in big chaos. Riots, burning, looting in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia."
This message illustrates the truth that whatever happens on the streets of cities around the world is felt and talked about on the streets of the number one global city, New York City.
This is also the reason why MNYBA is mobilizing churches to be on mission around the world through Global City Partnerships.
I want you to know about two of them:
Our latest Global City Partnership is with the churches and the Baptist Seminary of Madrid, Spain.
Why Madrid? Less than 1% of the population of Spain are evangelical Christians. Like much of Europe, there is a great need for the gospel.
Through the efforts of MNYBA, three of our Spanish churches are now working with churches and church plants in Madrid. Later this month they will be there helping with evangelism, leadership development and teaching.
This year MNYBA provided scholarships for three families and one single student to attend the seminary. Here are their photos:
Earlier this year, the Freshwater Church of St. John in the US Virgin Islands became a part of our Association. MNYBA has helped to send mission teams there for the last two years, and another team is set to go in July.
Pastor Terry Lansdale, and his wife, Marta, are thrilled to be a part of our association. You can see their thank you video here.
You might not see the Virgin Islands as a global city. However, nearly as many people live in the Caribbean as live in metro New York, and the world certainly goes there. The Freshwater Church is an outpost for the gospel there, and MNYBA is helping to grow that church.
Global Cities Partnerships is a part of our mission "to connect local churches for global impact." I thank the Lord Jesus for the way our churches are reaching he world!
If you would like to know more about how you can be involved in Global Cities Partnerships, let me hear from you. You can also find more information on our web site at www.mnyba.org.
